Australian Poker Sites: Not as Popular Anymore

Australian poker sites had a short, successful time where they were popular. However, it didn't take long for the government to put a stop to it. While the sites still exist, they aren't allowed to serve their own people.

The history of Australia has always involved gaming. Most of the settlers came from the UK, where poker and other various forms of gambling were popular. They took that glorious past time with them, betting on everything from horse races to various card games. Naturally, the first casinos became very popular, and it is no wonder that the first online casinos became extremely popular when they came out during the 1990s. Australians were eager and excited by the prospect of being able to play on poker sites from their own homes, and the industry of Australian began to flourish. However, this began to worry the government.

Their stance was that online gambling was dangerous, because so many Australians were regularly gambling already. They were so worried that the citizens would become intoxicated by online game that they wouldn't be able to stop, so they created the Interactive Gaming Act.

During 2025, that act put a stop to most Australian poker sites. It prohibited anyone from offering real money poker sites to anyone in Australia, and also prohibited the advertisement of such things to Australians. The law didn't prevent Australians, themselves, from accessing those types of sites, though. The laws were targeted that the people running the sites, and anyone found letting an Australian play was fined heavily.

As a result of that act, there has been a huge decline the amount of Australian poker sites. It is against the law, and that law doesn't seem like it is going to be repealed anytime soon. The Australian government truly believes that it must try to shelter its people from something as dangerous and addicting to online gambling.

As a result, many poker sites refuse the business of Australians. If they are found taking money from them, then they are persecuted. There are still sites that offer money to the Australian people, although they are risking a lot by doing so.

No one knows when and if the act prohibiting sites from serving Australians will be repealed, but it doesn't seem like it is going to happen for a very long time. As a result, there are very few Australian poker sites, and only a few places left for them to enjoy online poker, in general.
